Teams have until after the World Series to address their pending minor league free agents. That could include adding them to the 40 man roster or re-signing them to a new minor league deals. Some minor leaguers with enough major league time can elect free agency already, and C Payton Henry has already proceeded in that way.
According to Baseball America and Steve Potter the Phillies have agreed to a new deal with the following players.
RHP Connor Gillispie – Gillispie was having a bit of a breakout over the first month of the season with an increase in stuff and results. However, he blew out his elbow at the end of the month and needed Tommy John surgery. He is likely to miss most of the 2027 season and it remains to be seen if this is a 1 or 2 year deal to allow him to rehab and then stay in the organization.
RHP Estibenzon Jimenez – Jimenez was Reading’s closer to end the season and then went to the Arizona Fall League where he has been mostly just fine. He has a mid 90s fastball, solid slider, and ok changeup. He has a chance to be an up and down middle reliever, but regardless is good organizational depth at AA or AAA.
C Luis Caicuto – Caicuto was a minor league Rule 5 pick back in 2024 and was the second catcher at both Jersey Shore and Reading in 2026. He is a contact forward hitter who rarely strikes out, and finally hit for power this year with 6 home runs after not hitting one since 2022. Still just 23 he still has some room for growth. There is always a need for catching depth, and this will help the Phillies preserve some in the upper minors.
