According to Angelo State University (and the GCL Roster) the Phillies have signed Angelo State junior RHP Jason Zgardowski. Zgardowski went unsigned in the draft this past year, and had gone on to play in the Northwoods League this summer. He was selected to play in the Big League Dreams Showcase in Madison, WI (which I was unable to attend) where a Phillies scout was impressed and the team signed him to a contract. Zgardowski (6’5″) has a fastball that has been consistently 94-95 and a slider and split finger fastball. He has been assigned to the GCL Phillies and it remains to be seen if the Phillies will use him as a starter or reliever.

Good to see the Phillies taking chances and thinking outside traditional boundries to sign talent. He sure sounds like he has the physical tools to succeed and I wish the young man well.
