With their second pick of the draft, in the 3rd round at #98 overall, the Phillies selected Devin Saltiban a high schooler from Hawaii and announced him as a shortstop.
Many of the writeups have Saltiban as an outfielder, primarily as a center fielder, so it is interesting he is announced as a shortstop. He is considered the best prospect out of Hawaii this year, but it is not typically a stat that produces many draft picks. Saltiban predictably does not have much track record vs other top prospects, but he was at the combine and played in the Draft League (where he hit .262/.354/.405 in 11 games with 5 walks to 10 strikeouts. There are reports of good bat speed and power potential.
Really a mostly unknown and underscouted by the public industry prospect who was potentially rising quickly up draft boards with recent appearances.
