The Phillies clearly didn’t have the money to take some flyers on someone deciding to not go to school at the last minute, opting to take a bunch more guys that should be able to sign, with the exception of a few guys.
Pick information will updated as information becomes available.
31st Round – Tyler Carr, RHP University of South Alabama
A small (5’10”) right handed starter who put up solid, but unspectacular numbers. HE probably moves to the bullpen in the pros.
32nd Round – Ben Aklinski, OF, Kentucky
A senior outfielder who hit for average, but not a lot of power. He looks like a low level bench outfielder.
33rd Round – Jake Kinney, RHP, Tallahassee CC
Gigantic (6’7″) right handed reliever who struck out 65 in 39.2 innings this year. He is transferring to Florida State next year after two years of junior college.
34th Round – Nick Matera, C, Rutgers University New Brunswick
Matera hit .254/.346/.409 this season with both his power and BABIP dropping from 2017. Matera looks like an org catcher, but if he bounces back more to his 2017 stats, he could be something somewhat interesting.
35th Round – Austin Ross, RHP, Radford
Ross is a 23, almost 24 year old 5th year senior. He missed the 2017 season, but was pretty good for Radford both starting and relieving.
36th Round – Trent Bowles, OF, University of Texas San Antonio
Bowles hit .323/.376/.520 as a senior, but he also struck out 23% of the time with a 6.5% walk rate.
37th Round – Ryan Rijo, 1B, New Mexico JC
Rijo is going to be a fan favorite if he signs. The 20 year old Canadian is listed at 6’3″ 275lbs by his JuCo team. This year his team collectively hit .346/.454/.608, but Rijo hit .386/.527/.819 with 14 doubes, 20 home runs, 42 walks, and 28 strikeouts in 52 games.
38th Round – Stephen Jones, RHP, Samford
College junior with good size, who started and relieved. HAd a 4.73 ERA and ok, but not great strikeout and walk numbers.
39th Round – Mat Nelson, C, Calvary Christian HS (FL)
Catcher on the HS team coached by Roy Halladay, has a Roy Halladay tatoo on his chest in remembrance. He is committed to Florida State, and with solid, but not impact tools across the board, he is going to school.
40th Round – Waylon Richardson, RHP, Kankakee CC
Reliever on the 2017 D2 National Champions, had Tommy John surgery last August.
