It has been a slow news day for positive news, so here is some at least fun news.

There was no explanation of how minor league Gold Gloves are chosen so we have no real context for what these really mean. That being said, Sandberg has gotten mixed reviews for his defense ranging from very good to fringy in left field. Altherr won’t win major league awards for his center field defense, but we have seen in the majors already that he is good out there. In a corner he is spectacular. We can argue how defensive metrics translate plays into runs and then into wins, but it is hard to argue that his defense has been anything short of incredible in all three outfield positions.
The Sandberg award is especially encouraging since there was once doubt about his ability to stay in the outfield.
