Regular Season Record: 74-55 (40-26 first half / 34-29 second half)
The Phillies once again sent the majority of their draft class to open the year with the Threshers, and once again they won the first half to send the team to the postseason. That also means that Gage Wood, Cade Obermueller, Cody Bowker, Gabe Craig, Robert Phelps, and Nathan Humprey aren’t here anymore, also missing are the trade Ramon Marquez and Marty Gair, and the other standouts of the first half team like Alirio Ferrebus, Griffin Burkholder, and Juan Villavicencio. The team has been reinforced with hitters from the 2026 draft, but injuries have already taken Owen Clyne, Brayden Bakes, and second round pick Caden Bogenpohl. The long season of work and injuries have also likely taken Brian Walters and Matthew Fisher away from the roster as well.
What is left is a lineup that still has fine players in Nolan Beltran, Matthew Ferrara, and Jonathan Hogart and some interesting draft depth players. However is low on impact outside of 5th round pick Will Gasparino and potentially 1st round pick Tyler Spangler if he can get his feet under him. The weak crop in the FCL helped contribute to the talent shortage at the plate. The rotation is just as much a struggle. Brad Pacheco will presumably get the ball in game 1 in relief or in game 2, and while he is a solid pitching prospect who could dominate a game, he is very much wearing down after a long year. Sean Youngerman has been better of late and presumably goes in game 2 or 3followed by Zuher Yousuf in Game 3. LHPs Angel Liranzo and Yordanis Guerra and RHP Cole Gilley could factor in here, but it is overall a weak group. The bullpen has talented arms between Tyler Bowen, Wilmer Blanco, Orlando Gonzalez, Richie Cortese, James Tallon, Kyler Carmack, and others, but it is a very inconsistent group that could lock things down or implode on any night.
What may help is rehabbing players. It looks like as of now that Nestor Cortes may start game 1 as he works his way back from injury. Aidan Miller joined the Threshers on Saturday and played 5 innings at shortstop. He is likely to be limited in some way, but he showed he can still hit the ball hard. RHP Andrew Hoffman is also returning on rehab and has extensive AAA experience, and Luke Davis gives them some extra catcher depth. All of this is a bit fickle and feels unsportsmanlike, but it may help deal with the talent defeciency.
They probably still aren’t the favorite, but they still have a chance to win the 4 games needed to take home a title.
Playoff Schedule
The FSL playoffs see the first and second half winners of each division face off in a best of three series and then those winners face off in a best of 3 championship series. The Threshers are facing off against the Tampa Tarpons who ran away with the second half title.
