Per reports out of his Venezuelan team, Tigres de Aragua, Carlos Tocci suffered a broken metacarpal in his left hand when he was hit by a pitch Wednesday night. This is the first year Tocci has played winter ball after spending the last few years working out in Clearwater. He had been the Tigres primary right fielder and had gotten off to a solid start through the first 11 games, batting .333/.447/.400 over that time with 4 walks to 3 strikeouts. The injury is expected to keep him out for 6 weeks, it sounds like based on the reports out of Venezuela that he is expected to return at some point in the second half of the season.
It is a small set back for Tocci as it does take away 6 weeks of at bats, but it should have no lingering impact. Based on the last two nights it looks like Tocci’s replacement will be another in Phillies’ prospect in Herlis Rodriguez.
