Maikel Franco really emerged as a prospect in 2012 when he hit .341/.395/.530 in the second half of the year for Lakewood. He then had his breakout in 2013 where he compiled a .320/.356/.569 line with 31 home runs while splitting time between Clearwater and Reading. He was rated extremely highly by some publications before … Read more
Let’s start with the drooling and go from there as Chris King was at a showdown between Franklyn Kilome and a rehabbing Jameson Tallion. Kilome 94-96 with life. Breaking ball is much improved. Sharp, late bite at 79-81 #Phillies — 𝘾hris King (@StatsKing) May 14, 2015 Kilome's velo is so free and easy it's insane. … Read more
Today was another solid start from Phillippe Aumont in what is rapidly becoming an unbelievable story. Of his 4 starts so far, Aumont has been scoreless in 3 of them and overall has gone 21 innings with 16 hits, 3 earned runs, 5 walks, and 16 strikeouts. I want to write a big breakdown about … Read more
On the surface it has not been the greatest third season in Reading for Jesse Biddle, his 4.60 ERA is ugly and he is posting his lowest strikeout numbers of his career. However, that doesn’t tell the entire story here. Fangraphs has Biddle at a 2.77 FIP thanks to his zero home runs on the … Read more
Pitching Spotlight #1: Aaron Nola 8 IP 4 H 1 ER 0 BB 8 K We all know how good Aaron Nola is (and I will have a more complete report on him later in the week). Right now Nola has a 2.04 ERA over 39.2 IP, but that is a bit deceptive because of … Read more
Best Matchup Sunday – Lehigh Valley – Severino Gonzalez vs Matt Wisler Not the greatest weekend for matchups again, but Sunday will be Severino’s first start since making two major league appearances. Opposing him will be Matt Wisler who was a near consensus Top 100 prospect and the headliner in the deal that sent Craig … Read more
Both Baseball America and Fangraphs put up their first mock draft. The goal here is more about the players who are expected to go in the range mixed in with some rumors. So without getting into it too much, here are what they have to say about the Phillies at #10: Fangraphs: 10. Phillies – Tyler … Read more
On the year catcher and 2013 second round pick, Andrew Knapp is hitting .292/.339/.396. On the bad news, is that the line comes with 30 strikeouts in 106 ABs (26.1% K%) and a .403 BABIP that doesn’t look sustainable. Last year in Lakewood it was a similar story with Knapp hitting .290/.354/.438 with a 22.6% … Read more
I noticed that this year Maikel Franco had walked in his first 4 games and only one since, and that he had hit 8 of his 10 doubles in his first 10 games (he has played 25). So I set out to find out why Franco appeared to be low on power and expected to find … Read more
I have resisted writing about the MLB draft for a couple of reasons so far, the first being that I am woefully unqualified to really talk about anything other than pick #10, there are just too many players for me to really track for anything beyond that. The second is that all of the injuries … Read more
