The Phillies go with back to back shortstops in the draft, this time going with their first Junior College player of the draft in Nick Maton. Maton started his career at Eastern Illinois State after being drafted by the Athletic’s in 2015. He transferred to Lincoln Land Community College for the 2017 season. He hit well in his one year with a .408/.507/.722 line with 33 stolen bases in 35 attempts. Perfect Game’s Brian Sakowski had this to say:
#Phillies take Nick Maton, #JuCoRoute SS from Lincoln Land CC. Twitchy SS, plus arm, left side actions, has hitting tools as well

Maton also has good bloodlines with his brother Phil Maton making the majors this year for the Padres as a pitcher and his brother being an interesting prospect for next year. I am intrigued by the power and ability to stay on the left side of the infield.
