With the 27th pick in the draft Phillies draft HS OF Dante Nori. Nori is already 19 years old and will turn 20 in October, that means he was born in 2004 the same year as Justin Crawford and Aidan Miller.
He is athletic with at least plus plus speed, and supposed to have a good feel for hitting and the athleticism to have average power long term. He is another left handed hitting plus glove center fielder after taking Crawford two years ago.
The negatives is that he is a physically mature older player who dominated high school competition in Michigan. A lot of draft models are going to really knock that profile, though the Phillies have not cared too much about that. He also is a profile of player the Phillies have either taken or been linked to that have struggled to develop. It is a bit more reminiscent of the Ruben Amaro era drafting.
If you want to look at the bright side, he is an athletic, up the middle player with good bloodlines and makeup.
He was off some national boards and in the 60s on others, so this may be underslot, we won’t really have a hint at that until further picks in the draft.
