As expected, the Phillies went with a college senior in round 10 in South Carolina 3B Madison Stokes.
Stokes had a very pedestrian first 3 years of college, struggling both to hit and stay healthy. He did break out big time in 2018, hitting .342/.424/.609 for the Gamecocks with 11 doubles and 10 home runs. Stokes has solid raw power and average speed, and he does walk some, but for a college senior the strikeout rate isn’t great. He can play short, third, and first, as well as probably second. There isn’t a ton of upside here and I expect him to sign for $5,000 to $10,000 and be a utility infielder for Williamsport.
