After saying they were going to go with college pitchers on Day 2, the Phillies have taken their second hitter in 3 picks. (Kendall) Logan Simmons (he has been listed at both names aroudn the internet) is a high school shortstop out of Georgia.
Simmons has good size at 6’3″ 190lbs, and the frame to fill that out a bit more. He is all about loud tools with a plus arm and plus power. The problem has been contact for him, and he had a down spring with a lot of swing and miss, otherwise he probably goes in the 2nd or 3rd round. Right now he is a shortstop, but he only has average speed, which means if his body really fills out he is probably headed to third or a corner outfield spot. He is a bit of project with some definite boom or bust, but in the 6th round of the draft it is worth it. It is worth a note that some preferred his arm on the mound.
Some quick thoughts and video from the internet.
Phillies take GA prep Kendall Logan Simmons. Excellent physicality, big time arm strength, some preferred him on the mound, chance to be impact defender at 3B, has raw power to all fields, swing-and-miss concerns there

Kendall Logan Simmons is a polarizing player. He's got some raw power and an interesting infield actions, but swing and miss concerns and he might end up sliding to 3B.
