In the 7th round the Phillies go with another college arm with traits they seem to value in Missouri State RHP Jake Eddington.
Eddington is a 6’2″ RHP who missed the 2022 season due to Tommy John surgery. He has some projectability but reportedly sits mid 90s and up to 97 with good spin (EDIT: up to 99 with bad shape this spring). He has a good slider with good spin. He has thrown a changeup, but rarely. He has control issues (40 walks in 55.2 innings), but unlike Klassen there seems to be more optimism that the control issues are somewhat related to the return from surgery than intrinsic issues. This makes him a big more of a project, but also it looks like he might have a change to start, but there is fastball-slider multi inning reliever fall back.
Missouri State RHP Jake Eddington has surfaced as a pop-up name in draft circles. After a loud fall, Eddington has been up to 97 this year with "one of the best sliders in the midwest". Needs to miss more bats with the FB, but athlete, delivery and stuff is very present. pic.twitter.com/xhQfW2KZh8
