On to the end of the draft.
16th round – Josh Bortka, RHP, University of Central Missouri
It is the point in the draft where teams start taking flier on college relievers with interesting stuff, or at the least the Phillies do with the same sort of guy. Bortka only pitched one year at University of Central Missouri where he put up good numbers in 24.1 innings of relief work including 41 strikeouts. Bortka has been pitching for the State College Spikes so we have some trackman data, and it is right up the Phillies alley. He has been up to 95 with a fastball that will exceed 2600 RPM and a slider that is over 2900 RPM. He is also 6’5″, just a prototype Phillies reliever target.

17th round – Daniel Harper, RHP, Kentucky
Phillies double up on big college righties pitching for the State College Spikes. Harper is another high spin fastball guy, but in this case pairs it with a cutter instead of a slider. He struggled to miss bats in college, but that ticked up sharply in the draft league.

18th round – Braylen Wimmer, 2B, South Carolina
Tall college bat with good power and speed, but a lot of swing and miss? Yep, that is another of the same type for the Phillies, in this case it is Wimmers who is listed as a second baseman but seems like he might be moving around the diamond. Wimmer hit .312/.361/.466 this season and hit well on the Cape last year. He is going to need to chase less and make better contact to have any sort of future.
19th round – Drew Garrett, RHP, Missouri
Garrett is another big (6’6″) RHP who appears to have high spin pitches and good velocity. He hasn’t pitched much though and has been wild in those small sample sizes.
