Today Jessica Jensen (@JessicaFastball) interviewed me for her #BehindTheSeams interview series on Twitter. The series is interviews with people primarily around the game of baseball, really highlighting the dynamics and personal stories of the people involved and discussing topics normally outside of our normal conversation. Jessica is well worth the follow overall and the entire #BehindTheSeams series is wonderful and a great use of Twitter as a medium for discussing baseball and the stories around it. I greatly enjoyed both talking about baseball in the interview and in our prep leading up to it. The focus today was mostly on the state of stats in terms of writing, what is publicly available vs owned by teams, and the lack of innovation in how we approach statistics. Jessica put the entire interview into Storify and that is what I present below.

Matt – enjoying the new site
Thank you, it has been really nice writing here
Why did you start this one and not stay at phuturephillies?
I am thankful to have had the opportunity to write at phuturephillies and it was tough to leave. This is a tough question because there were a lot of things involved. In the end I wanted to write and cover baseball following my own vision and this site was the result of that.
Any opportunity to write a monthly guest feature article for PP if you and they were willing?
No, I find it unfair to the writers of another site as well as me to write something for their site that I would write for this site. I am open to collaboration and working with anyone on any writing or research on phillies minor league prospects, but I am not going to encroach.
i’m all over this new phillies site like brown on turd. it’s really wonderful.
