Scouting Report:

Fastball: Elniery Garcia’s fastball comes out loose and easy from a quick arm. After his first year Garcia was sitting 86-88 with his fastball. The pitch was more 88-90 early in 2014, but he has been 89-91 later in the year touching 92 in instructs. There is room for more in the frame and he already can throw the pitch consistently for strikes.

Curveball: Garcia this year showed an improved curveball this year. The pitch is in the mid-70s and comes with sharp 12-6 break. He has shown good feel for it all year and has used it as a chase pitch for strikeouts, as well as getting it in the zone for strikes.

Changeup: Garcia’s changeup is in the 82-84 range and like the rest of the arsenal it comes out fluid and easy. Much like the curveball he already has feel for the pitch and it has some natural cut to it as well. If he can get a bit more separation from the fastball and continue to improve his feel it could be a weapon for him going forward.

Summary: Garcia lacks true front line stuff and he doesn’t have the ideal frame either for a starting pitcher. But if the fastball creeps up to be more 90-92 T93, he could get to three plus pitches, and that is plenty to be a very good starting pitcher. Obviously he is going to need to get bigger and stronger, but he already has a great feel for pitching and good control of both his fastball and secondary pitches for his age and level.
