Baseball Betsy posted the first roster and final schedule for instructional leagues up on her site.  I want to talk about the roster so you are going to have to actually click the link if you want to when and where they are playing games.  So without further delay here is the roster (the roster is not final and is subject to change):

Some Thoughts:

  • Trade Guys Everywhere: Nick Pivetta is going to the AFL, John Richy won’t be here, Jerad Eickhoff and Alec Asher are in the majors, but everyone else is here from Nick Williams to Alberto Tirado.  It will be the first time that Joe Jordan’s player dev staff gets a chance to learn about the players and tweak things.  The amount of change could range from very little to huge alterations (as I wrote earlier today on Tirado).
  • Big New Additions: Well at least Jhailyn Ortiz was a big addition, but Rafael Marchan (C) and Manuel Silva (LHP) are stateside.  It will be the first real look we get at them.
  • Return of Familiar Faces: Daniel Brito is back to join Gamboa and Arauz in a crowded shortstop mix.  Nerluis Martinez is back at catcher after a solid DSL campaign.  The one big name guy who is not back as of right now is catcher Lenin Rodriguez.
  • Pitching Will Be a Big Focus: There are some familiar faces making a return for progress checks like Franklyn Kilome, Jairo Munoz, and Shane Watson.  There are some GCL guys who are looking to continue to grow in Sam McWilliams, Adonis Medina, Bailey Falter, Ranger Suarez, and Felix Paulino.  Then add to that mix some serious arms in Jimmy Cordero and Jake Thompson as well as any potential conversions for Alberto Tirado and Alexis Rivero, and you have some serious firepower.

  1. I still think Franklyn Kilome was injured at end same might be said for Pujols who absolutely dropped off cliff 2nd half.
