Phillies Acquire SS Devin Lohman from Reds for Cash

Following the news of J.P. Crawford’s injury, the Phillies acquired SS Devin Lohman from the Reds.  Lohman was a 3rd round pick out of noted SS factory Long Beach State, he played for AA Pensacola last year hitting .245/.310/.352 in 108 games.  He is a light hitting shortstop with good hands and a very good arm.  He can play second base and third base, but short is his best position.  On offense he really hasn’t shown a ton of pop outside his time in the CAL league, but he can steal a couple of bases with average speed.  At this point his ceiling is as a utility infielder, but more likely he is just minor league depth.  He will help in either Reading or Clearwater helping to fill in some of the empty space until Crawford gets back.  Depending on how he does, he could stick around a bit longer or be out once Crawford comes back.  This is pretty much exclusively a move to add minor league depth.
