Phillies 2017 Draft Rounds 26-30

I don’t have a lot to go on here for these 5 picks so I will give you what I have and update as I learn more.

Draft Tracker

Round 26: Quincy Nieporte, 1B, Florida St

Nieporte was arrested in 2015 for $1000 in vandalism, but otherwise has been 3 years (spent 2014 at JuCo) as a solid college contributor. He is coming off of his best year, batting .305/.378/.508. He is an org first baseman.

Round 27: Yahir Gurrola, OF, North Florida

2017 was Gurrola’s first at North Florida and he hit .320/.373/.541 in 57 games.

Round 28: Bill Sullivan, RHP, St. Marks HS (DE)

He is a 6’2″ 180lb HS righty. He apparently worked out for the Phillies before the draft. He is committed to the University of Delaware.

Round 29: Bailey Cummings, RHP, San Jacinto College North

It was passed on to me that Cummings showed up on campus last year as an outfielder and was converted to the mound this year. He did not appear in any games in 2017. He has a great frame and good arm strength.

Round 30: Matt Kroon, 3B, Central Arizona College

Kroon started at University of Oregon for his freshman year, but transferred after a poor first season (he also did not get a lot of playing time). He hit .266/.382/.388 this season with more walks than strikeouts.

  1. Bailey Cummings father pitched in the minors for the Braves and uncle pitched in the pros for Toronto. Tall and big build with massive arm strength that isn’t even polished. Kid is an animal and I’m interested to see him develop.
