Catching Up On a Week of Transactions

Start by some injuries and some returns from injuries there has been some shuffling on the minor league level this week. I am going to quickly run through all of the transactions and then talk about the impact.

  • Adam Morgan recalled by the Phillies
  • Luis Garcia optioned to AAA
  • Alec Asher promoted to AAA
  • Severino Gonzalez promoted to AAA
  • James Russell assigned to AAA
  • Reinier Roibal demoted to AA
  • Hoby Milner demoted to AA
  • John Richy promoted to AA
  • Miguel Nunez promoted to AA
  • Greg Brodzinski promoted to AA
  • Greg Brodzinski demoted to Extended Spring
  • Ulises Joaquin demoted to A+
  • Joely Rodriguez demoted to A+
  • John Richy activated off of Clearwater DL
  • Jairo Munoz added to Clearwater DL
  • Derek Campbell promoted to A+
  • Damek Tomscha demoted to A-
  • Luis Morales promoted to A-
  • Zach Coppola added to Lakewood DL
  • Venn Biter promoted to A-
  • Kenny Koplove demoted to Extended Spring
  • Luis Morales demoted to Extended Spring
  • Anthony Sequeira promoted to A-
  • Cornelius Randolph added to Lakewood DL (Left shoulder out ~2 weeks)

So that is a whole pile of transactions to untangle.

  • Despite speculation, Thomas Eshelman and Ben Lively stay put as the two more experienced pitches in Richy and Asher move up to the appropriate levels. Richy made one start for the Threshers before his promotion. Asher may not be on the same roll as Lively, but he has made some adjustments and has been really solid.  Since he is on the 40 man roster he represents another emergency arm available to the Phillies is disaster were to strike.
  • Hoby Milner has been beyond excellent for the IronPigs this season, but with Russell and LaFromboise there is not really room for another lefty there.
  • Severino Gonzalez has looked solid in relief and so getting him to AAA to test him out is a good challenge for him.
  • Joely Rodriguez continues to have a live arm and be a wreck. I would not be surprised if his time in the org is short, though he is still fairly young and he has some potential.
  • Miguel Nunez had a rough debut in AA this week, but the big righty touched 96-97, so there is a lot to like.
  • Randolph goes to a mounting Lakewood DL list, but he is not expected to be out for very long.
  • I don’t expect much more movement for another few weeks, but then a lot of movement when the Leibrandt, Leiter, and Cordero group are ready to go.

  1. “…a lot of movement when the Leibrandt, Leiter, and Cordero group are ready to go.”

Could this conceivably force Lively up the ladder? Do you see them cutting bait with Buchanan if that happens?

  2. Any news on jorge alfaro? I haven’t seen him on the reading box score in awhile. I know he had an injury, but i wasn’t sure if he’s out for awhile or just a few days.

    • Heard over on phuturephillies.com they were targeting a Wednesday (of this week) return for Alfaro.
