BP Updates Phillies Top 10 (or rather they did 2 weeks ago)

So on February 19 Baseball Prospectus released their post-trade updates for National League Teams.  I missed this update for 2 weeks because I am apparently blind.  Their original list was released in November.  This update was only putting in the trade additions into the original list.  This puts the Phillies list now as:

  1. J.P. Crawford
  2. Aaron Nola
  3. Maikel Franco
  4. Zach Eflin
  5. Yoel Mecias
  6. Ben Lively
  7. Tom Windle
  8. Jesse Biddle
  9. Deivi Grullon
  10. Kelly Dugan
  11. Carlos Tocci
  12. Elniery Garcia
  13. Dylan Cozens

Some Notes:

  • Eflin and Lively were both listed with upside of Role 6 – #3 starter and Realistic Roles of Role 5 – #4 starter
  • They like Windle’s stuff, but the command profile and delivery make them think his likely role is the bullpen

Good to Mecias get some love ,

Do you think E Garcia is good or is it just the fact the phillies dont have much in the way of top end prospects

I think he is very interesting. Doesn’t have the upside of Kilome or Pinto, but he is left handed has feel for 3 pitches including a curve that could be plus.

Elniery Garcia…hard for me to grasp why such a discrepancy between BP’s (12) and BA’s (33).
It would seem, BP at 12 and his age have him on an upward mobility fast-track, BA on the other hand , has him being a little bit away as a long-range prospect at 33. He is not physically imposing, listed at 6′ and 165/170 lbs, his SO/9 is decent not exceptional, his control is very good however at BB 2.8/9, but it is all on a SSS.
Just do not get the large discrepancy.

You are reading too much into the ranking number itself.

BA gave Garcia a grade of 50/Extreme, it is the same grade given to Mecias, Pinto, Kilome, and many others. Essentially the gap between 12 and 30 is really not that large.

Matt……. listened to Pat Gillick’s interview this morning from Florida?
he was very forthright and honest on almost all subjects , except one puzzling response.
When ask why the reluctance to get involved more heavily in the bidding for Cuban players lately, other then MAG two years ago, he said he could not get into it….but it is not about money or their talent level.
I wonder what else could there be on the table preventing them from going after the Cuban talent, other then the two-year restriction on the LA signings….but he surely would have mentioned that.

7 of those guys don’t appear on Law’s top 15.
