Adam Morgan Assigned to the AFL

Morgan made his season debut in Instructs last week.  The LHP was ranked in the Top 100 prospect by Keith Law after the 2012 season (#1 in the Phillies system).  He missed all of 2014 recovering from shoulder surgery, but when healthy he shows a fastball that is 89-92 with a plus slider, above average to plus changeup, and average curveball.  Going into the 2013 season Morgan shined in Spring Training and looked like he was poised to make the major leagues.  If healthy he has a #3 starter ceiling.  His assignment to the AFL comes a bit as surprise given the rules governing injured players, but it looks like the Phillies were still able to get him on the roster.  It remains to be seen how much he will pitch and in what role.

  1. I assume this is good news? Shows that the Phils are optimistic about his recovery process so far. They don’t feel the need to have him in Clearwater watching his every throw up close.

  2. This sounds like great news as Morgan is healthy enough to start pitching against good competition. I hope Morgan can make it to the Phillies soon as he could really help in the rotation if he is 100% healthy and was very close to being promoted before. I saw him at Allentown/Lehigh Valley a couple years ago and he pitched alot like Cliff Lee with a fastball around 93 mph and very good breaking pitches. Good luck to the the young man as he and the Phillies could use some good fortune.
